Team National Endeavor 24 hour Rowing challenge

To celebrate the defence nuclear enterprise and the 60thanniversary of the polaris sales agreement, the HMS Oardacious team launched a rowing challenge fundraising for our partner charities (The Oardacious fund (RNRMC), HELP Jim’s Story and The Submarine Family.  A cross white hall team including the Cabinet Secretary, DG Nuclear, HMT 2PUS, the Second Sea Lord, Fleet Commander, MD Warhead and the Deputy national security adviser all took part in a 24 hours rowing relay in MoD Whitehall fundraising £13,165 for our charities.

Lily Mae Fisher Cycle France Challenge

Future HMS Oardacious 2024 Ocean rowing Lt Lil-Mae Fisher tested her resilience in 2022 cycling the length of France; she successfully fundraised £1537 for our RNRMC HMS Oardacious fund to provide submariners and their families access to mental health and wellbeing support initiatives.

Wes’ 100,000kg Challenge

On Wednesday the 19th of October Petty Officer Wes McGuinness did continuous circuits of squats, bench press, and deadlift - exceeding his target of 100,000kg within 6 hours! raising £734 for RNRMC in the Wyvern Centre in HMNB Devonport.

Since taking up the sport in 2011, The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity have played a huge part in Wes’ Powerlifting journey. Without the financial backing from RNRMC over the years he wouldn't have been able to reach the level I am at today.

English Channel Relay Team

In June 2022 Captain Elton Sharkey, Commander Rich Cragg, and Lieutenant Commanders Callum Fraser and Hugo Mitchell-Heggs successfully swam the English Channel as a relay team, raising over £6600 for the RNRMC!

The team started the 21-mile swim from Samphire Hoe, Dover at 03:27hrs. They swam as a non-stop relay, which consisted of an hour swimming and three hours resting. To comply with the Channel Swimming Association Limited certification rules, they only wore a swim cap, goggles, and swimming trunks.

After 17 hours and 11 minutes the team reached Plage de Wissant in France and completed the swim. The conditions meant that out of the eight attempts that day they were one of only four groups that succeeded!

AMy

Amy (a Petty Officer Medical Assistant Submariner) has served in the Royal Navy since 2012, joining the submarine service in 2016. Injury forced a switched from rugby to open water swimming in 2018, and she has been going from strength to strength since!

While serving in HMS ANSON, one of the Royal Navy's newest submarines, she decided to complete the 2022 Great North Swim. She was making great progress on the day, but unfortunately the organisers stopped the swim half way around owing to bad weather. Amy was understandably gutted that she couldn't complete what she’d set out and trained for!

So 2-months after the interrupted event, Amy set out in Crummock Water in skins unsupported and swam the 10km. She tells us it wasn't easy by any means (and we believe her!) but the good weather and knowing it was to raise money for RNRMC spurred her on.

Amy wants to say thank you to everyone who's supported and sponsored her - she smashed her target of £500 by raising £710 for charity!

YORKSHIRE University Royal Naval Unit (URNU)

Yorkshire URNU help to develop future leaders of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

They completed a 50km challenge (set up by OARDACIOUS and RNRMC in 2019). The event was incredibly successful - they rowed 50km as a team in 3 hours and 10 minutes, raising over £660 for RNRMC!

#RunForSubmariners

Team #Run4Submariners joined HMS OARDACIOUS as part of the "Submarine Family Resilience Initiative" - a campaign where Royal Navy Submariners take on challenges, to inspire and raise awareness for Mental Health in our community and support some fantastic charities.

At 10 am on the 11th September 2019, the team completed 52-miles of running whilst raising over £1,700 for the Submariner Memorial Appeal (which HMS OARDACIOUS were fundraising for at the time).
